South Korea’s LG Innotek has teamed up with Japan’s TDK to innovate new vision and tactile sensing modules aimed at enhancing robotics and physical AI. By merging LG Innotek’s prowess in optical and precision engineering with TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technology, the collaboration aims to bring advanced sensing capabilities to the robotics field.
One of their key projects is the development of a vision sensing module that integrates an inertial sensor, set to be released in 2027. This module will amalgamate visual, motion, direction, and sound data, allowing robots to navigate and interpret their environments more effectively while minimizing image distortion from movement.
In addition to visual sensing, the partners are working on a tactile sensing module that mimics the sensitivity of human skin. Designed to detect touch and pressure, this module will enable robots to have a more nuanced physical interaction through their hands, arms, and bodies. This tactile module is also scheduled for completion by 2027.
According to LG Innotek, this strategic partnership will bolster its position in the burgeoning robotics sector by expanding its array of AI sensing technologies. These advancements include enhancements in cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors, further solidifying its footprint in the market.
