Lidl Hungary has inaugurated its largest warehouse in the country with the opening of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This significant development follows a nearly 60 billion forints investment, equivalent to around €162 million. The sprawling facility, covering over 83,000 square meters, is set to bolster Lidl’s supply chain by servicing approximately 70 stores across Hungary.
The new logistics hub has significantly boosted local employment, creating over 400 jobs, and Lidl anticipates hiring about 50 more employees soon. Equipped with 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, the center is designed to maintain efficiency while incorporating sustainability. Noteworthy features include a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on the roof and a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
Environmentally conscious initiatives extend beyond the building itself, with a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area developed around the site. This green space underscores Lidl’s commitment to sustainability as it continues to expand its operations within the country.
The logistics center is poised to play a crucial role in strengthening Lidl’s nationwide supply network. It is expected to handle around 4,500 pallets of goods departing daily, ensuring a steady flow of products to the retailer’s 220 stores across Hungary. Lidl’s focus on domestic sourcing is evident, with nearly 60% of its products procured from Hungarian suppliers, supporting the local economy.
As Lidl Hungary continues to expand, the new logistics center marks a pivotal step in enhancing its operational capacity and efficiency. The development not only supports Lidl’s growth ambitions but also reinforces its commitment to sustainable practices and community development.
